Why do you want to learn to play? Maybe it’s so you can help out at your local church / ministry. I’ve never really thought about it but I’ve never been at a church where they didn’t have music because I can play.
Or maybe it’s to fulfill a lifelong dream – no matter your age. I wanted to play since I was six years old but it was 10 long years before God helped me put the pieces together.
Then I worked at a church and Christian school teaching piano lessons to others to help solidify and help me put into words and lessons a systematic approach that anyone can use to learn!
The one thing we hear consistently about our lessons is that they are “so different” from other lessons out there. Many of our students say it has helped them “put the pieces together -even after taking years of lessons from other teachers”!
(And I’ve taught people from the ages of 6 to 70+!)
However, the biggest thing I’ve noticed about those who learn to play and keep getting better versus those who stay stuck in a rut playing the same things over and over again is that winners have an “I can do this mentality” and “non-winners” have an excuse mentality (I’m too old, my hands are too small, I just don’t have it).
So 1) remember WHY you are learning – keep your BIG WHY front and center and 2) remember that you can do ALL things through Christ and “if any lack wisdom, let him ask of God that gives to all liberally”.
